Foliophoto: Collection
One of the things I intentionally wanted to work on for 2013 was my photography skills. I’ll be honest, having a husband who is an amazing photographer makes me a lazy lady. That’s why I was thrilled when Sandra from the Raincoast Cottage joined forces and foliophoto was born. Over the past few weeks we’ve captured various themes and worked on things like natural light, macro lenses and all sorts of encouragement.
The best part is that you don’t have to be a blogger – although bloggers are encouraged to participate. You just need to be someone looking to work independently within a group to build up a portfolio and we would love for you to join up! It’s a hassle free, easy going way of making sure you try out new photography styles each week. For now: you can join via flickr or use the hash-tag for instagram: #foliophoto. Don’t believe me? Let Sandra convince you even more.
Now, let’s get to it!
Prompt: Collection
Subject: We currently are staying at my brother’s swanky apartment in downtown Syracuse while he is out of town. As I was packing over the weekend I realized that everything I was grabbing was a blush, metallic, and rose gold. Using the inspiration of this photo as my inspiration I used the natural lighting in our home office.
Camera: Sony NEX-5 | adjusted brightness via Snapseed
What do you think of styled shoots? I’m going to attempt to shoot most of my blog photography in this way. I’m all for those random moments of inspiration but I like the control of styling.
Join along next week with the new prompt: black & white. Interpret this how you would like – with black and white images, items, or a creative way that you see this!
But wait…it gets even better! Beginning next month in March this will be a new weekly BLOG linkup as well. Let me know in the comments section if you want to participate and check back next week for the 411 on linking up!
P.S. Don’t forget to check out Sandra from the Raincoast Cottage’s foliophoto image for “Collection“ & check out the others participating!

This sounds awesome Christie! Right now I possess an iPhone but for the next week or two I’m borrowing my friend’s canon dslr and would love to jump in on the link up!
Camille! We would love to have you – plus the best part is you can use whatever you have! I used my iPhone a few weeks too! It’s all about working with what ya got!
I love the collection! And I love the colors! I keep wanting to join in on this fun adventure, and I keep forgetting. I am going to try very hard for this next prompt! :)
Tasmin – we would love for you to join! Next week we are going to even roll out a blog linkup so you can join and link your blog to the project!
Now I HAVE to remember! :)
Don’t worry Tasmin I’ll be posting reminders! ;)
Christie, this is a really cool picture! When I first saw it I wondered what it would look like if the scarf was laid out in a circle instead of folded like this. I’m definitely going to try to participate in the next one.. now where to find something that’ll look cool in black and white haha :)
Kory I love your idea! I was definitely trying to recreate my version of the image I was inspired by. I’m excited to test and try out different things! We would love for you to join up – that will be awesome! And yes, black & white – use your imagination! xo
