Foliophoto: Wood
Today’s post is a little DIY meets foliophoto!
Prompt: wood
Subject: You know those super trendy Nate Berkus decorative urchins for Target? Well I think they are amazing. I created my own interpretation of them a couple months back. Introducing Christie’s urchins! My initial plan was to create these and spray paint them metallic gold [which let's face it I might still do] but I’m waiting for the weather to allow an outdoor spray painting day. In the meantime, I’ve fallen in love with the wooden dowels and really like them in their incomplete stage which is why they are the photo of the week!
Camera: iPhone5 | no filter just cropped to square
DIY supplies to create your own urchin:
Styrofoam balls [cut in half - or just save yourself time and buy the semi-circular ones!]
Wooden dowels [you can choose various sizes or all the same size depending on the look you want - these are all the same size]
Spray paint [optional]
Want to join up? Here’s the dealio on #foliophoto:
Sandra & I will brainstorm a topic each week to interpret through photos [we are trying to build up our skills, portfolios, and original content that we create for our blogs] and you will be able to participate if you would like! We’ve started a flickr group called Foliophoto (public/invite only for now – email me for access or mention it in the comments) and instagram hashtag #foliophoto. You don’t have to be a blogger to participate – come one come all!
Next week’s prompt? WINTER
P.S. Make sure you check out Sandra‘s interpretation of wood and check out the others participating!

That’s a nice piece of wall art. Can’t wait to see how it looks after spray paint. Bet it’s going to look awesome.
Thanks lady – I’m gonna make a few of them and group them in clusters! Don’t worry I’ll take a picture of the after so you can see!
I wasn’t really partial to the Nate Berkus line. Call me weird but I’m not big on Wooden Urchin things! I’m more of a fluffy, feminine sort of gal.
Kim – believe me Nate Berkus’ line isn’t for everyone. I like things a bit more masculine and I felt like his line was really leaning toward that look vs. feminine and fluffy. Maybe it’s the fact that my dad was a clammer on Long Island that makes me drawn to the urchins! :)
Oooh, girl! This looks awesome! So cool!!
Oh Kory – thanks! It’s so easy and I love how light and easy to hang they are!
Great project! I love everything from the Nate Berkus collection, and this is a great interpretation. :)
Thanks Amber I appreciate it! I love finding other bloggers who love interiors as much as I do – I’ll be checking your bloggy out!
