I realize that Thursdays are turning into more of a post for bloggers day around here. I think that’s because Thursdays are where I share my progress for my Happiness Project – and my project is focused on bedsidesign. Over the past few months I’ve really tried to step up my game here, be more consistent, and share my journey with you. Since January is all about social media for me I’d like to share what works for me. Maybe you’re a baby blogger and you somehow stumbled across this blog. Or maybe your a seasoned blogger and you have some tips to share with me! Either way I’d love to continue last week’s conversation.

This week I’m going to focus on my fave: Twitter.

One of the biggest reasons why I love Twitter is that you are only allowed a certain amount of characters per tweet. Blogging + twitter = short quips [aka witty snapshots] about your posts, blog relationships, etc.

Here are my top three ways to use twitter when relating to blogs:

1. Get your content out there! Twitter is one of my BIGGEST generators drawing in readers. Since you are limited to keep things short and sweet character hoarders aka full links are your enemies. Try out bitly! This lil sucker changed my life. Well, maybe not seriously BUT it is an amazing thing to track links and it shortens urls to cutesy bitly links. This is valuable when you are tweeting blog posts, or other links since you have to choose your characters wisely.

2. Connect with other bloggers + brands. This may be routine for some but if you write up a post and feature a blogger, or brand do a little detective work. Find their twitter, include your link and mention them in a tweet! Most bloggers will respond and visit your blog, and the same goes for brands. The icing on the cake is when you get a retweet that generates new followers.

3. Community: what’s Christie talking about here? Twitter is a great way to foster a community of followers for your blog/brand and keep the conversation going. Seriously, do you see all of those dapper people in that ad?! A friendly blogger needs guest posters? Reach out! You want to invite your friends to join FAB – tweet your invitation link! View Twitter as your friend, not an annoying little birdsite and you can begin to socialize your blog.
